March 11, 2025Recently at our business meeting Sigid Jakob, our club president for four splendid years, announced she was stepping down from the role. Sigrid guided the NYMS with a steady hand while she simultaneously transformed the club. She introducing new programs like the microscope & DNA lab loan programs, she spear-headed the recent 2025 New York City fungal diversity report. She oversaw two wildly successful fungus festivals. She created new leadership roles in the club (Cultural Coordinator, Recorder) and even introduced a new way to welcome new members on walks: with a free 10x hand lens.
Votes were taken at the meeting and Ethan Crenson (who types these words) was selected as the new president. To fill the role of vice president, which Ethan held, Paul Sadowski stepped forward as acting vice president until a permanent vice president is found. Ethan has been a member of the NYMS since 2009, has been vice president and newsletter editor. He frequently leads walks and hosts ID meetings at his home. Paul Sadowski is a 30-year veteran of the New York Mycological Society, its former Secretary, ID meeting host and microscopy workshop instructor. He is also a teacher of mycology at New York Botanical Gardens.
