The New York Mycological Society is excited to announce our inaugural Myco Film Festival! NYMS was founded 1962 by the visionary avant-garde artist John Cage, and has had a long relationship with the arts. Over the past decade there has been an efflorescence of film and video on the mycological world and we are excited to showcase it in NYC's first fungal film festival!

Please join us on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at SVA Theatre in New York City for a fabulous evening of international short fiction, documentary, animation, experimental films, and VR illuminating the fascinating world of fungi and exploring mycology in bold new ways -- where the only "magic" mushrooms will be the creative magic happening on screen.

Opening Reception

17:00 - 18:30

We will kick things off with bioacoustical myco-music by Lisa Schonberg and gourmet vegan mushroom-based appetizers by myco-chef Kate Ray and award-winning chocolatier Chi Bui, and Immorel -- sparkling mushroom teas by Charlotte Rogg and Hayley Kats. As an alternative to movie popcorn, in-screening mushroom chips will be offered by Popadelics.

The theater lobby will feature a special VR art experience by artist/director Jonah King and producer Alex Darby -- "Honey Fungus," a sci-fi Virtual Reality work and installation inviting the audience to expand their bodily experience of the greater ecosystem.
