A new New York State Mushroom Coalition
September 23, 2026Stephen Russell at Mycota Lab is offering DNA sequencing for fall fungi. Specimens need to have been collected between October 2 and October 11, 2026.
If you’re interested in submitting a specimen, it will need an iNat observation with good photographs of the mushroom from multiple angles, a completed field data slip, and properly dried mushrooms.
The Fall Continental Mycoblitz is open to anyone who is willing to make scientifically valuable collections of mushrooms – including photography, field notes, and submitting a dried specimen. Any individual or organization can submit their most unique/interesting/exciting collections to the project. Experts will examine each collection and will perform DNA sequencing on thousands of the specimens that are submitted.
You have the chance to make a significant contribution to our knowledge of fungi from North America by submitting specimens to this project. There is a suggested contribution of $3 per specimen for your submissions.
Full rules and a link to the iNat project page can be found here.
