Dear NYMS Members,
At NYMS, we have always aimed to offer unparalleled value to our community. Our commitment to providing top-notch benefits remains unwavering, and we are excited to share some updates with you in the new year.
Over the years, we have provided an array of services to our members at the incredible cost of $20 per year. Remarkably, despite our growth and increased digital presence, we have managed to keep our membership cost stable for decades while exponentially expanding member benefits.
As a testament to our commitment to affordability, consider this: when NYMS was first formed by John Cage and his cohorts back in 1962, the cost of a one-year membership was $24.50, equivalent to $125.00 in 2023.
Our services, including lectures, identification sessions, workshops, Fungus Festival, Myco Film Festival, dinners, community gatherings, and our vibrant newsletters (now in full color), have been a staple of the NYMS experience. As we have grown to over 1.2k members, nearly 8k Facebook group participants, and over 8k Instagram followers, we have maintained our commitment to quality without sacrificing the essence of our community.
The recent website redesign, spearheaded by our dedicated Secretary, Elan Trybuch, marks a significant step forward. The streamlined membership flow not only optimizes the sharing of information but also eliminates redundancy in event notifications. The new setup automates processes, centralizes information, and delivers a richer experience for all.
To ensure the sustainability of our community, we are making the strategic decision of discontinuing secondary emails in our Family Plan. All memberships continue to cover the whole family/household – it’s just that now every family/household will have only one email address and password. While we understand this may inconvenience some, it is a necessary step to balance our growth with our operational capacity.
Starting Thursday, December 14th, 2023 any family members wishing to receive individual email notifications must sign up as individual members. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate these changes.
