  • Whimsical Mushroom Adventure: A Hands-On Mushroom Walk for Children

    NYMS community partnership coordinator, herbalist, educator and forager Journei Bimwala will lead a captivating kids' expedition this Saturday September 30 in Pelham Bay Park.

    Fun activities will include Mushroom Spore Printing Mushroom hunting, Mushroom Dissection, Mushroom Stamping and a Murder mushroom mystery! Kids will discover different fungal lifestyles and the various roles that fungi play in nature.

    Come join us for our scheduled walk in Clove Lakes Park, Staten Island this Sunday!

    This walk was originally scheduled for Saturday October 7 but because of significant rain in the forecast we're moving it to Sunday.

    We've seen a lot of rain lately and this will have hopefully translated into healthy flushes of fall fungi.

    Bring water and lunch.

    If you've never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect. We highly recommend using app to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.

    Lots of things happening out in the woods. Join us for an in person ID meeting on Monday, October 9 and let's get them identified!

    The meeting will take place from 18.30pm to 20.30 at Ethan Crenson's house. Attendees can of course arrive later and leave earlier.
