Our very own Sigrid Jakob will be presenting about how the New York Mycological Society compiled our 2025 New York City Mycological Diversity Report.
The New York Mycological society has been focused on documenting New York’s fungal diversity since 2009. The club visits 17 New York City parks and greenspaces year-round (about 40 walks a year) and tracks every single fungal species encountered. The report is built from data in our database. Learn how the NYMS conducts our surveys, analyzes the data and presents it to the world.
Sigrid Jakob is a New York City–based amateur mycologist with a specialization in dung fungi and Incoybaceae and is a former president of the NAMA-affiliated New York Mycological Society. Her work combines field observation, microscopy and DNA sequencing, with a focus on documenting overlooked fungal diversity in urban and natural habitats. She is particularly interested in taxonomy, and making specialist knowledge accessible to a broader community.
