Join us for a walk in Van Cortlandt Park (West), Bronx, NY on Sunday, July 19th.
During last year’s summer walk in Van Cortlandt Park, NYMS members found two species of ascomycetes that were new to New York City, Orbilia nemaspora and Pachyella adnata. We are excited to see what we will find this year.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The NYMS is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will postpone or cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
Ticks and mosquitos are common in this park so you will want to be prepared for those as well.
