August 5, 2026Stephen Russell at Mycota Lab is offering DNA sequencing for summer fungi. Specimens need to have been collected between July 31 and August 9, 2026.
If you’re interested in submitting a specimen, it will need an iNat observation with good photographs of the mushroom from multiple angles, a completed field data slip, and properly dried mushrooms.
The Summer Continental Mycoblitz is open to anyone who is willing to make scientifically valuable collections of mushrooms – including photography, field notes, and submitting a dried specimen. Any individual or organization can submit their most unique/interesting/exciting collections to the project. Experts will examine each collection and will perform DNA sequencing on thousands of the specimens that are submitted.
You have the chance to make a significant contribution to our knowledge of fungi from North America by submitting specimens to this project. There is a suggested contribution of $3 per specimen for your submissions.
Full rules and a link to the iNat project page can be found here
