February 3, 2025Our partners, the Natural Areas Conservancy, strives to deepen the connection between people and nature in NYC by increasing access, providing education, and building the environmental workforce. Through research, partnerships, and advocacy, they ensure that urban natural areas are healthy and thriving and that their benefits reach all New Yorkers.
They regularly conduct very deep audits of New York City’s parks and greenspaces and have a ton of helpful resources on their website. One of them is an interactive map that shows in great details the state of each park’s forests, streams, freshwater wetlands. salt marshes. The map lets you see how each park is doing. Click on a park and then explore via “what we have” , “how it’s doing” and “what we’re doing” for each of the habitat categories to get the full picture.
Find out more about their other research here, whether it’s about the health of the city’s natural areas, environmental justice, the flood proofing of cities, or mapping urban nature.
