This walk will be a bit different from our usual NYC Park walks. The Greenbrook Sanctuary prohibits the removal of material from their property. This optimizes the survey baseline: the environs are not foraged thus providing a more natural venue for surveying the fungal biome.
Please join us for a pop-up walk in Cunningham Park, Queens this Sunday!
We don't have a scheduled walk programmed for Labor Day weekend so we'll be checking in on what's going on New York City parks. Cunningham Park has lots of ponds and downed wood so it should be a good walk for wood-decaying fungi.
But ponds also mean mosquitoes, lots of them! We recommend bringing a full armory of bug repellents and protective clothing.
If you've never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect. We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.

Come join us for our scheduled walk in Clove Lakes Park, Staten Island this Sunday!
This walk was originally scheduled for Saturday October 7 but because of significant rain in the forecast we're moving it to Sunday.
We've seen a lot of rain lately and this will have hopefully translated into healthy flushes of fall fungi.
Bring water and lunch.

We are committed to documenting biodiversity and many of our members use the iNaturalist app to document their finds. This generates valuable records for science and conservation.
Bonus: expert identifiers will ID your specimens. We have four projects – one for NYC & the 5 boroughs proper, one for outside NYC & the surrounding areas, one for Slime molds of NYC, Bolete patrol and one for DNA Sequenced Collections – and we encourage you to join them. Instructions on how to use iNaturalist are here if you need them.
