NYMS is very excited to announce Breakdown: The Promise of Decay — a much-anticipated major exhibition featuring fungi and two NYMS members, Phyllis Ma and Lisa Schonberg.
Breakdown examines the vibrancy of decay. This interdisciplinary exhibition explores notions of time, waste, and the in-between. Breakdown shines a light on the dark corners of the life cycle recognizing the oft-overlooked workhorses of the ecosystem.
Come visit this hidden gem of a museum and view the exhibition at the public opening on 1/25/2025. Bring the whole family! Enjoy kid-friendly activities inspired by the show. Zoom in on fungi specimens with the microeye microscope, explore color and flow with wet-on-wet painting, enjoy vibrant natural science books in our reading nook, take home a mushroom coloring page, and more fun for all ages. Along the way, check out the other exciting cultural and culinary delights on Staten Island and make a day of it!
Space is limited, registration is strongly recommended. Register here! (Please note that this is a non-NYMS event — your NYMS membership does not impact your admission ticket price.)
