There are nearly twenty thousand species of Lichens. They’ve inhabited Earth for hundreds of millions of years and play a vital role in countless ecosystems. And yet, lichens are often overlooked. Filmmaker Ondřej Vavrečka turns his lens toward these remarkable organisms with curiosity and care. His perspective—mirrored in the thoughtful dialogue between experts Trevor Goward and Curtis Randall Björk—is both scientific and philosophical. To Vavrečka, lichens are more than biological forms; they embody a way of being. They suggest that instead of endless growth and reshaping of our surroundings, we might imagine a world rooted in symbiotic communities where all life holds equal value. More about the film.
