Join us for a special visit to the Victoria Munroe Fine Art Gallery on the Upper East Side, followed by a walk in Central Park, this Saturday, May 9th. Please note: there is limited capacity for this event. RSVP required. RSVP using the ticket pane below.
We will first visit the Victoria Munroe Fine Art Gallery to view a mycologically-inspired exhibit entitled Natural History Watercolors by Julien Alphonse Lignier (1872-1932)
Lignier is known for his mushroom drawings and watercolors that were inspired by his friendship with the noted mycologist François-Marie Louis Corbière (1850-1941). He made drawings and watercolors based on specimens collected by Corbière and others. Lignier had a penchant for illustrating ascomycetes, rusts, smuts, slime molds and odd tiny things that intrigued him. Had he lived in 21st century New York, he would have fit in well in the NYMS.
The gallery visit will be followed by a walk through Central Park.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
