Join us for a walk in Seton Falls Park, Bronx this Saturday, April 18th.
Seton Falls Park is a basin—a park mostly down below street level—so it may retain moisture where other areas are dry. It also has a creek (Rattlesnake Creek) and a waterfall. There are unusual fungi there as well. For an example, see the Winter/Spring 2022 newsletter for a description and photo of Hygrophorus sp. ‘NY03’, a mushroom which bears a striking resemblance to Hygrophorus roseobrunneus.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
