Join NYMS and the Natural Areas Conservancy for a walk celebrating National Trails Day in Forest Park, Queens on Saturday, June 6th. Please note the early start time.
The walk will be an exploration of the ecological and mycological components of the forest at Forest Park, Queens. During this walk we will share information about community forestry, forest ecology, mycology and how all these things relate to one another. This is an explorative walk, you are encouraged to interact with the forest and ask questions along the way. We will conclude the event with an evaluation of mycological and botanical samples collected during the walk.
All ages are welcome. Attendees under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please RSVP using the NAC Eventbrite invitation. The event is free.
Attendees are encouraged to fill out this volunteer waiver.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
The event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event, please use the login form in the left sidebar.
We look forward to seeing you at the walk!
