Join us for a walk in Alley Pond Park, Queens this Saturday, January 11th.
Temperatures have been, for the most part, below freezing and there is snow on the ground. But did you know that certain fungi produce compounds (for instance trehalose) that act like antifreeze in cold weather?
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. Dress for the weather (quite cold). The NYMS is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday!
