A pair of events—a lecture and a walk— designed for absolute beginners are planned for Saturday, July 5th and Sunday July 6th.
On Saturday, join NYMS president Ethan Crenson for a zoom lecture entitled Mushrooms 101: An introduction to collecting and identifying fungi.
The summer mushroom season is upon us. Now is the perfect time to learn how to identify common fungi of the Northeast. This lecture and walk are aimed at beginners and will cover tools and terminology, the basics of identifying fungi. The lecture takes place on Zoom on Saturday morning at 11am.
On Sunday at 10am, come to Cunningham Park, Queens to put into practice what you learned in the zoom lecture.
Sunday’s walk will also be for beginners. It will start with a brief demonstration of how to make a quality observation on iNaturalist using your smartphone in the field. Then we will walk the paths in Cunningham Park looking for summer mushrooms on which to use the mushroom identification skills covered in the lecture. Mushroom pros are welcome to attend this walk, but please come prepared to educate!
This event is in collaboration with the LES Ecology Center.
This lecture was recorded and is viewable to active members who are logged in. To watch this video, please use the login form in the left sidebar.
