School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Monitor, headphones, projector, shelf, ping pong table, live fungi, bite-size fairies,” an exhibition of select thesis projects by more than 20 students from the MFA Computer Arts class of 2024, curated by co-director at Beta Local Pablo Guardiola and senior systems administrator for the department José Vargas. The exhibition will be on view from Friday, May 31, through Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery at 601 W 26th St, 15th floor, New York, NY.
Jessica Reisch’s Fruiting Bodies utilizes the familiar mushroom as a window into exploring the vast and largely invisible networked relationships in the natural world. Shengnan Dong and Michael Dondero’s Nostril looks at the things people put up with for love, highlighting relationship struggles with a light-hearted tone. Yinjie Liu, Yi Yao and Yuqi Gong present Heartbeats, a 3D-animated short film about a young boy named August whose dreams of being a cool drummer shift as he grows older.
She is also a member of NYMS and a graduate student at SVA in the MFA Computer Arts department. Her thesis project, which is an immersive installation about fungi called Fruiting Bodies [1] is currently on view at SVA’s Chelsea Gallery in our thesis exhibition [2].
She would love to pass along an invitation [3] to the reception this Monday 6/10 6-8pm to other members, many of whom she has to thank (in addition to programming like the Myco Film Fest!) for inspiring and supporting this project.
