Join us for a walk in Clove Lakes Park, Staten Island on Saturday, October 17th. Clove Lakes can be hit or miss. On one visit in October of 2023 we found at least four (1, 2, 3, 4) distinct species of Cortinarius, all quite close to one another. But in dry seasons Clove Lakes can be a bit disappointing.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
Ticks and mosquitos are common in this park so you will want to be prepared for those as well.
