Catskill Weekend 2024
April 9, 2024NEMF-member clubs! Registration
April 15, 2024Longtime NYMS member Andrew Cannon has set up a very different kind of iNat project – it’s to document the many fascinating fungi sold at New York City’s grocery stores. You might remember Andrew’s remarkable display at both Fungus Festivals.
Next time you see interesting and unusual fungi sold at a store, why not document them for this project?
NAMA (the North American Mycological Association) will also be offering free sequencing for grocery store fungi periodically this year, so if you end up purchasing, dehydrate and keep a specimen.

Here is the project description:
A place to track the diversity of fungi imported to New York City markets. For inclusion in this project, the fungus must be for sale in the five boroughs and can be fresh, dried, pickled, or preserved in any other way and may. It may also not be for consumption, for instance some fungi are used in cosmetics and elsewhere. Make sure to label the observation as “casual/captive” and to include photos of the packaging and the location of the store in the observation.
