Join us for a walk in Alley Pond Park, Queens this Sunday, September 6th.
Last summer at Alley Pond Park, our former president, Sigrid Jakob, found a new to the city species, Inocybe subfulva. On the same walk, she also found Inocybe communis, a new species she went on to describe in a paper she recently coauthored. Perhaps this week we will find those and the newly described Inocybe lincoffi.
Bring paper bags for collecting specimens, a hand lens, a knife, a tackle box (optional), water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
