Join us for a walk in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn on Halloween and wander among the memorials to New York’s past residents including Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, Charles Ebbets, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Horace Greeley. Green-Wood is a 478 acre cemetery and arboretum, that hosts some unusual fungi which we might encounter if the conditions are favorable. If conditions are not favorable there are always lichens on the trees and gravestones.
This is a non-collecting walk, so bring only a hand lens. No foraging in the cemetery. The club is fairly all-weather, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here is what to expect.
