The executive committee created a scholarship program to honor the legacy of Gary Lincoff following his passing in 2018. The scholarship was set up to provide the scholar with financial support to attend one of the established North American forays.
Attending one of these forays provides the scholar with an immersive weekend mycological experience that can provide a quantum leap in one’s mycological pursuit. NYMS will pay one double accommodation registration fee for NEMF, NAMA (when in the northeast), WPenn Gary Lincoff, Richard P. Korf, Charles Peck or Clark Rogerson Forays. Ground transportation assistance will be provided.
This year NYMS will announce the scholarship in April. Applicants are required to submit a short essay explaining their mycological efforts to support their candidacy. Enrollment in a course in mycology, a strong interest in the field, including frequent attendance at NYMS events, or a body of observations on social media such as iNaturalist or Mushroom Observer will be considered as factors in considering awarding the scholarship. Deadline for submission will be April 30, 2026.
A committee of three senior NYMS members will review and make selections. Announcement of the scholarships will be made in mid-June.
