SUMMARY:Clove Lakes Park\, Staten Island\, NY on Saturday\, October 17th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Clove Lakes Park\, Staten Island on Saturday\, October 17th. Clove Lakes can be hit or miss. On one visit in October of 2023 we found at least four (1\, 2\, 3\, 4) distinct species of Cortinarius\, all quite close to one another. But in dry seasons Clove Lakes can be a bit disappointing. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nTicks and mosquitos are common in this park so you will want to be prepared for those as well. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve\, Deer Park\, with LIMC\, Saturday\, November 14th
DESCRIPTION:Joint walk with Long Island Mycological Club (LIMC) at Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve\, Deer Park\, NY – Saturday\, November 14th. \nEdgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve features a rare pitch pine/scrub oak barrens characterized by dense shrub thickets. This is an unusual barrens habitat which occurs in only three places on Long Island. It is considered a globally rare habitat. The barrens are interspersed with stands of bigtooth aspen and there are grasslands on the site as well. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day.
