SUMMARY:Green-Wood Cemetery\, Brooklyn\, NY on Saturday\, October 31st
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn on Halloween and wander among the memorials to New York’s past residents including Leonard Bernstein\, Boss Tweed\, Charles Ebbets\, Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Louis Comfort Tiffany\, and Horace Greeley. More recent arrivals include Paul Auster\, Chuck Close\, Leon Golub and Nancy Spero. \nGreen-Wood is a 478 acre cemetery and arboretum\, that hosts some unusual fungi which we might encounter if the conditions are favorable. However\, because it has not rained in Brooklyn in about three weeks\, the outlook for gilled fungi is not ideal. But we have a backup plan. In addition to your walk leader\, Sigrid Jakob\, who will identify what mushrooms might be there\, we will also have Wilton Rao\, lichen expert\, on hand to explore the many lichens on the trees and gravestones in the cemetery. \nThis is a non-collecting walk\, so bring only a hand lens. No foraging in the cemetery. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!
