SUMMARY:Trees Count - Fungal Edition
DESCRIPTION:Survey the fungi and trees of Carl Schurz Park with the NYC Mushroom Network. \nJoin the NYC Mushroom Network and the New York Mycological Society for a special Trees Count workshop to help survey trees and their fungal counterparts at Carl Schurz Park. The workshop will begin with a training with Tree Census educators on ArcGIS using the Tree Census app. We will learn about tree assessments\, the relationship between trees and fungi\, identification techniques\, and common fungal partners and pathogens\, with Manhattan Parks Forestry; Zihao Wang\, forester and naturalist; and Andrew Canon\, artist\, amateur mycologist\, and expert on rust fungi. The conversation will be facilitated by Daniel Wendlek and Marilyn Griffin. Participants will split up in teams into different zones within the park to start counting trees\, assessing tree health\, and identifying fungi! After completing the first training event\, participants are welcome to continue surveying trees on their own in smaller parks across the city. Each participant will receive a tote bag with all the materials needed to count trees as well as a Tree ID guide. \nRegister here: https://www.nycgovparks.org/reg/trees-count/20575

SUMMARY:2026 Catskills Weekend at Soyuzivka Village Oct. 2-4th
DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Catskills Weekend is closed. \nWe are returning to Soyuzivka (Soy-ya-`zyou-ka) in Kerhonkson\, NY for our annual Catskill Weekend. Soyuzivka is a Ukrainian Village Resort in the heart of the Shawangunks west of New Paltz. \nOur Society has spent autumns hunting mushrooms in this area for over 20 years. Hope runs high that this autumn will be as productive as it has been in years past. \nThe weekend begins with a Friday night buffet supper at the Main House Dining Room where all meals will be served. \nWe have reserved the Kiev Lodge\, a beautiful house that sleeps 18-20 people in single & double rooms. The house features a spacious living room and a balcony offering a magnificent view of the Catskills to the north. Should we exceed that number we’ve also reserved Halych Lodge to handle overflow. \nRooms in the Sich Dormitory provide a more economical housing option. These registrants must bring their own bedding and bathroom towels. \nThere are a number of campsites in the area. \nAnd we will offer a meal plan for campers and commuters. \nSaturday starts with breakfast\, followed by a foray in nearby forests. We’ll split up into two or three groups. After a boxed lunch\, we’ll do more foraging in the area. We’ll have a mycology session in the late afternoon followed by Saturday night dinner. Sunday we’ll have a breakfast before breaking for our return trip to New York with stops along the way for mushroom hunts in the Shawangunks. \nHere are the various accommodation offerings: \n\n\n \n\n\nRoom Type\nTotal Cost\n\n\n\n\nSingle room Fri & Sat with 5 meals\n$510.00\n\n\nDouble Occupancy per person with 5 meals\n$340.00\n\n\nDorm accommodation per person 5 meals\n$265.00\n\n\nCommuter per person with 5 meals\n$175.00\n\n\n\n\nTo reserve your spot\, make a ticket selection (below) and put down the $100.00 deposit. Send an email pabloski1@verizon.net to let Paul know you have made your reservation. As the weekend draws near Paul will be in contact to collect the balance due. \nThis weekend is open only to NYMS Members in good standing. \nFor further information on Soyuzivka visit their website http://www.soyuzivka.com \nFor bus transportation visit Short Line Bus. \nPlease note: ** Your RSVP ticket will be tied to your NYMS account.**

SUMMARY:Tallman State Park\, Rockland County\, NY - Saturday\, October 3rd
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Tallman State Park in Rockland County this Saturday\, October 3rd. \nWe have not visited Tallman as a club since 2019. Pluteus aurantiorugosus\, a beautiful and stunning and somewhat rare orange mushroom was last seen there by the club in October 2019. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar.
