SUMMARY:Come join us for an in-person ID meeting this Monday\, July 6th
DESCRIPTION:Our next ID meeting will take place on Monday\, July 6th\, from 6.30 to 8.30 at Paul Sadowski’s place. Attendees can of course arrive later and leave earlier. \nPlease bring any interesting specimens regardless of whether you have identified them or not\, and check out what others have found. \nIn person ID meetings are a great way of developing your hands-on identification skills and dipping your toes into microscopy.\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nThere will be microscopes and lots of mushroom books. In person ID meetings are a great way of developing your hands-on identification skills and practicing microscopy! \nWe continue to encourage members to use iNaturalist – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City.\n\nWe look forward to seeing you on Monday!

SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Riverside Park\, Manhattan\, Saturday\, July 11th—a collaboration with Riverside Park Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:Join NYMS members for a collaborative walk with The Riverside Park Conservancy in Riverside Park\, Manhattan Saturday\, July 11th. \nOur collaborators\, the Riverside Park Conservancy\, are an organization which cares for the six miles of parkland on the West Side of Manhattan from 59th to 181st Street. Working alongside the New York City Parks Department\, the RPC makes improvements as diverse as the park itself and the city it serves. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you at the walk!

SUMMARY:Wolfe’s Pond Park\, Prince’s Bay\, Staten Island - Sunday\, July 12th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Wolfe’s Pond Park\, Prince’s Bay\, Staten Island – Sunday\, July 12th \nThis is our first official walk of the season. Since 2020\, NYMS members have found Nigroporus vinosus in only a handful of New York City’s parks\, including in Wolfe’s Pond. This attractive polypore\, which previously had a distinctly southern distribution is expanding its range northward. It is easily recognized when fresh by its purplish-brown pore surface which bruises black when damaged. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The NYMS is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will postpone or cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThis location is particularly buggy so you will want to be well protected by insect repellent. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!
