DESCRIPTION:Our next ID meeting will take place on Monday\, June 22nd from 6.30 to 8.30 at Elan Trybuch’s house. Attendees can\, of course\, arrive later and leave earlier. \nYou are welcome to bring whatever mushrooms and other fungi you have found. ID sessions are also a great opportunity to brush up your microscopy skills. Monday’s session will be equipped with both dissecting and compound scopes. You can practice making slide mounts with chemical stains. DESCRIPTION:NYMS community partnership coordinator\, herbalist\, educator and forager Journei Bimwala will lead a special workshop entitled Forest Floor First Aid: Herbal Safety Skills for Mushroom Walkers on Saturday\, June 27th in Van Cortlandt Park.  Depending on the weather forecast\, we may have an impromptu walk after the workshop. \nDate: June 27th \nTime: 10 am \nPlace: Woodlawn station\, the last stop on the #4 line \nThis workshop purpose is to prepare NYMS members for safe participation in mushroom walks and outdoor exploration by introducing foundational field safety awareness\, herbal first aid principles\, and environmental risk recognition. \nThe focus will be on \n\n\n\nWound awareness and basic field care principles\nBleeding response (direct pressure and stabilization concepts)\nPoison ivy and tick awareness\nHerbal plant allies for minor outdoor incidents\nSimple immobilization principles (sling demonstration)\nField safety decision-making and when to seek help\nThis session will also introduce key mushroom walk safety practices\, including environmental awareness\, common field hazards\, and responsible observation in forest settings.\n\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website.
