SUMMARY:Come join us for our online ID meeting this Monday\, June 8th
DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be online. Share anything you have found recently\, or share older observations for which you haven’t gotten a species ID. Show off mushrooms from your travels\, nearby or abroad. Share your ID triumphs and tribulations. Show your spring gilled mushrooms\, dots on sticks\, jellies\, and crusts. We will continue having intermittent in person ID sessions throughout the spring and summer. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others have found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related.\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk Kissena Park\, Queens\, Saturday\, June 13th followed by (optional) lunch at Bodhi Village
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Kissena Park\, Queens this Saturday\, June 13th\, followed by (optional) lunch at the nearby Bodhi Village\, a Chinese restaurant specializing in vegetarian dishes\, many with mushrooms.  Please note the early start time for this walk. \nThe restaurant\, located at 136-20 Booth Memorial Ave\, is about a half hour stroll from the main park via the Kissena Corridor Park. After surveying the main part of the park we will walk through the Kissena Corridor Park to the restaurant.  As many of you know\, the pace of our walks depends how many mushrooms are around.  However\, we plan to get to the restaurant between 1:30 and 2:00. If you plan to join the lunch at Bodhi Village\, please bring cash. About $35 should cover the meal. \nKissena Park is not one of our most frequented green spaces\, mostly because in dry weather there are few fungi. The northern end of the park is a historic tree grove where Samuel Bowne Parsons (1819-1906) established a nursery. Parsons’ nursery imported over 100 varieties of exotic trees and was the first nursery to introduce Japanese maples and propagate rhododendron. Frederick Law Olmsted sourced many of Parsons’ trees for the construction of Central and Prospect Parks. Conditions have been dry and it is still early in the season\, so we’re not expecting a lot of mushrooms. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box\, water and a lunch (if you do not plan to join us at Bodhi Village). \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you!
