DESCRIPTION:Our next ID meeting will take place on Monday\, June 1st\, from 6.30 to 8.30 at Ethan Crenson’s house. Attendees can of course arrive later and leave earlier. \nPlease bring any interesting specimens regardless of whether you have identified them or not\, and check out what others have found. \nIn person ID meetings are a great way of developing your hands-on identification skills and dipping your toes into microscopy. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nThere will be microscopes and lots of mushroom books. SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Forest Park\, Queens\, Saturday\, June 6th\, 10AM—National Trails Day
DESCRIPTION:Join NYMS and the Natural Areas Conservancy for a walk celebrating National Trails Day in Forest Park\, Queens on Saturday\, June 6th. Please note the early start time.  \nThe walk will be an exploration of the ecological and mycological components of the forest at Forest Park\, Queens. During this walk we will share information about community forestry\, forest ecology\, mycology and how all these things relate to one another. This is an explorative walk\, you are encouraged to interact with the forest and ask questions along the way. We will conclude the event with an evaluation of mycological and botanical samples collected during the walk. \nAll ages are welcome. Attendees under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please RSVP using the NAC Eventbrite invitation. The event is free. \nAttendees are encouraged to fill out this volunteer waiver.   \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. DESCRIPTION:The verdant havens of cemeteries can be particularly rich spots for fungal discovery but if Green Wood and Woodlawn are too far for you to trek\, visit The Evergreens Cemetery! This gorgeous hidden gem on the border of Bushwick Brooklyn and Ridgewood Queens dates back to 1849 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. \nWe are pleased to announce our inaugural event with this new cultural partner on Sunday June 7th\, 12-2PM.
