SUMMARY:Come join us for an online ID meeting this Monday\, May 25th
DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be online. Share anything you have found recently\, or share older observations for which you haven’t gotten a species ID. Show off mushrooms from your travels\, nearby or abroad. Share your ID triumphs and tribulations. Show your spring gilled mushrooms\, dots on sticks\, jellies\, and crusts. We will continue having intermittent in person ID sessions throughout the spring. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others have found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related.\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Zoom Lecture: Sigrid Jakob - New York City Mycological Diversity Report
DESCRIPTION:Date/Time: May 26\, 2026 | 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM (EDT)\nOn Zoom\nFree \nOur very own Sigrid Jakob will be presenting about how the New York Mycological Society compiled our 2025 New York City Mycological Diversity Report. \nThe New York Mycological society has been focused on documenting New York’s fungal diversity since 2009. The club visits 17 New York City parks and greenspaces year-round (about 40 walks a year) and tracks every single fungal species encountered. The report is built from data in our database. Learn how the NYMS conducts our surveys\, analyzes the data and presents it to the world. \nSigrid Jakob is a New York City–based amateur mycologist with a specialization in dung fungi and Incoybaceae and is a former president of the NAMA-affiliated New York Mycological Society. Her work combines field observation\, microscopy and DNA sequencing\, with a focus on documenting overlooked fungal diversity in urban and natural habitats. She is particularly interested in taxonomy\, and making specialist knowledge accessible to a broader community. \nTo register for the presentation click here. \nThis presentation is FREE. But NAMA presents many quality programs\, presentations and forays for its members. To join NAMA visit https://namyco.org/

SUMMARY:The Fairy Rings | MycoRX @ Plank Road
DESCRIPTION:Location: Plank Road Public Shoreline\, 4801 58th Road\, Queens\, NY 11378\nDate/Time: Saturday\, May 30 – 11am-2pm \nJoin Newtown Creek Alliance\, The New York Mycological Society and artist Jan Mun at Plank Road to put art into practice through bioremediation. \nNewtown Creek Alliance invites you to join us at Plank Road to participate in the making of a social sculpture — working with biochar and fungi to improve soil and reduce street water runoff into the Creek. Learn about the benefits of fungal mycrofiltration\, how biochar offers housing to our invisible microorganism neighbors\, and how to redirect waste materials to develop a new lifecycle that helps repair our environment. \nPlank Road is a unique street end site in Maspeth\, Queens\, that we have been working to restore for both wildlife and local workers/residents alike. We aim to engage folks with this rare public Creek access point through hands-on projects that can help improve environmental conditions along the shore and in the Creek itself. \nThe event is free\, however\, please RSVP using the NCA’s Eventbrite invitation page. \nMeetup Location: We will be meeting at Plank Road\, 48-01 58th Road in Maspeth\, Queens\, at 11a.m. \nDirections: From Manhattan/North Brooklyn: Take the L train to the Grand St. stop. Walk 1 block to the corner of Grand and Waterbury St. to catch the Q59 bus going towards Queens. Get off at the Grand St/Grand St Bridge stop and walk across the bridge. Take a left on 47th Street and walk to 58th Road. \nFrom South Brooklyn: take the G train to the Metropolitan Avenue stop. Walk to Metropolitan Av/Rodney St and get the Q59 towards Queens and get off at the Grand St/Grand St. Bridge stop. Proceed to the location as described above. \nOther Bus/Train combinations can get you to the location from other NY neighborhoods. \nPlan ahead for the event: Please wear weather-appropriate clothes\, sturdy shoes\, and bring your own water bottle and sunscreen if need be. We will have water and snacks on hand for volunteers. There are no bathrooms on site. \nThis program is in collaboration with NCA\, The New York Mycological Society and artist Jan Mun. With generous material support from Tri-lox and Mushroom Queens.
