SUMMARY:Come join us for an online ID meeting this Monday\, March 9
DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be  online. The two recent snowstorms have made it difficult to get out to look for fungi. However\, at Monday’s meeting feel free to show older collections—identified or not. Show off mushrooms from your travels\, nearby or abroad. Share your ID triumphs and tribulations. We may also take a closer look at some of the new-for-NYC observations from 2025. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others have found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related. \nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Elan Trybuch- Myxomycetes: Slime-tastic fun-guys of the microbial world!
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, March 11th at 6:30pm at the Central Park Arsenal \nMyxomycetes: Slime-tastic fun-guys of the microbial world!\nWhat swims like a tadpole\, crawls like an amoeba\, and drops spores like a mushroom?  In this talk our very own Elan Trybuch will explore the slime mold lifecycle\, their taxonomic classification\, and their biodiversity across New York’s five boroughs. \nAbout our speaker: Elan is the Secretary of the New York Mycological Society and a Myxomycete specialist\, helping to identify species and document the biodiversity of Fungi and Myxomycetes in NYC. Under the moniker nyc.slime.patrol\, his high-resolution focus-stacked slime mold photography has dazzled many and even been featured by iNaturalist where he not only leads with the most myxo- observations in the city but also dutifully aids in matching IDs to other people’s sightings. He currently lives in Red Hook\, Brooklyn with his partner and works at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an Integration Engineering Manager. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Hunter's Island\, Pelham Bay Park\, Bronx\, Saturday\, March 14th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Pelham Bay Park\, Bronx this Saturday\, March 14th. \nPelham Bay Park is a little difficult to get to\, but a very pleasant walk. The woods have oak\, hickory\, black locust\, cherry\, tulip poplars\, and a few birches. There’s even a stand of pines and\, if there’s time for a minor detour\, some Norway spruce. Of course there’s also wetlands and nearby Orchard Beach. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you at the walk!
