DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be  online. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others \nhave found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related.\nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Long Pond Park\, Staten Island\, Sunday\, December 7th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Long Pond Park\, Staten Island this Sunday\, December 7th.  \nProbably the only thing that would improve Long Pond Park would be moving it closer to the rest of New York City—that\, and a concerted campaign to reduce the number of ticks and mosquitoes. The mosquitoes won’t be out this Sunday. Ticks could be\, though not in summer numbers. But other than that Long Pond is lovely. On Sunday’s walk\, be on the lookout for a very unusual bird’s-nest fungus called Nidularia deformis\, the Amorphous Bird’s Nest. It has only ever been found in New York City twice—and once was in Long Pond Park.  \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
