SUMMARY:Aishwarya Veerabahu - Invasive Fungi in the Bigger Picture
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 6th\, 6pm \nPier 57 Daffodil Classroom \nJoin us for a follow up talk to Aishwarya’s Midas Mushroom lecture.\nIn this talk\, we’ll go beyond Golden Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) to discuss other invasive fungi and have an open conversation about how we approach this issue in the greater context of our current\, mushroom moment. \nAbout our Speaker: Aishwarya Veerabahu is a 3rd year Botany PhD candidate\, studying fungal ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, advised by Dr. Anne Pringle\, with a PhD minor in Life Science Communication\, advised by Dr. Dominique Brossard. She is broadly interested in studying fungal biodiversity\, drivers of diversity\, cross-kingdom interactions\, science communication\, and science policy concerning fungi (or the lack thereof!). When she’s not doing science\, she’s jamming out with her band. \nThis lecture was recorded and is viewable to active members who are logged in. SUMMARY:Joint NYMS/COMA Picnic. Fahnestock State Park\, Putnam County\, NY - Saturday\, October 11th
DESCRIPTION:The New York Mycological Society along with COMA (Connecticut-Westchester Mycological Association) are having our annual joint potluck picnic. We are having it at Pelton Pond in Fahnestock State Park\, Putnam County\, New York on Saturday\, October 11th starting at noon. We will not have a mushroom walk before the picnic this year as we do not have a permit to pick mushrooms. There are plenty of places in the park to mushroom hunt in the afternoon but we won’t be doing it formally as a club. Please bring any fungi that you want identified. \nPlease bring plenty of good food and drink (mushroom dishes appreciated\, of course) to share with everyone. COMA will be providing plastic forks and knives\, plates\, cups\, napkins\, tablecloths\, etc. Do bring serving utensils for your dish. Pelton Pond has tables\, both sheltered and outdoors. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!
