SUMMARY:Come join us for an online ID meeting this Monday\, June 2
DESCRIPTION:Subphylum Agaricomycotin1Next Monday’s ID meeting will be  online. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others \nhave found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related.\nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Aishwarya Veerabahu - The Midas Mushroom: Ecological Impacts of Invasive Golden Oyster Mushrooms
DESCRIPTION:Thursday June 5th\, 7:30pm \nGolden oyster mushrooms (GOM; Pleurotus citrinopileatus) have become the new friendly neighborhood\, easily found\, edible mushroom- but are they friendly neighbors to local fungi? In this talk\, we’ll discuss our findings regarding GOM’s negative impacts\, where it could spread to next\, and how you all can help out with the research moving forward! \nAishwarya Veerabahu is a 3rd year Botany PhD candidate\, studying fungal ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, advised by Dr. Anne Pringle\, with a PhD minor in Life Science Communication\, advised by Dr. Dominique Brossard. She is broadly interested in studying fungal biodiversity\, drivers of diversity\, cross-kingdom interactions\, science communication\, and science policy concerning fungi (or the lack thereof!). When she’s not doing science\, she’s jamming out with her band.\nThis lecture was recorded and is viewable to active members who are logged in. SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Clove Lakes Park\, Staten Island\, Sunday\, June 8th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Clove Lakes Park\, Staten Island this Sunday\, June 8th. \nClove Lakes Park is where Tree Bacon\, Punctularia strigosozonata\, got its common name. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you at the walk!
