SUMMARY:Come join us for an online ID meeting this Monday\, April 7
DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be happening online. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others \nhave found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related.\nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Cunningham Park\, Queens\, Sunday\, April 13th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Cunningham Park\, Queens this Sunday\, April 13th. \nThe spring can be cruel for mycophiles. We watch the flowers bloom and the trees leaf out\, knowing that the mushrooms will be along\, but not just yet. However\, Cunningham Park (and nearby Alley Pond Park) are host to an early season ascomycete: the “false morel” Gyromitra korfii. The genus Gyromitra has recently undergone a revision so the species in question now goes by the name Maublancomyces korfii. The name doesn’t really roll off the tongue. Bragging rights and eternal gratitude to anyone who finds this mushroom on Sunday. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The NYMS is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. The rain we expect to see on Saturday will likely be just ending as our walk begins on Sunday. Fingers crossed. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect. \nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you at the walk!
