DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s ID meeting will be happening online. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others have found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related. \nAs always\, we encourage you to use iNaturalist to share your observations – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City\nFungi Beyond New York City\nSlime Molds of New York City\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Join us for a kosher vegetarian Chinese mid-winter feast!
DESCRIPTION:The mushroom season is done\, but we still must look for them wherever we can! And we are in the middle of holidays\, so time to gather and enjoy the occasions. \nThere are two Kosher Chinese Vegetarian restaurants in Chinatown that have had an ongoing rivalry for being THE original Buddha Bodai for quite some time now\, and here is your chance to try the 77 Mulberry place (https://www.veganbodhi.com)\, just to change things up. Everything is vegetarian there\, most dishes are vegan\, but you will not be missing meat products at all. The costs per person should be somewhere around $30-35 (inflation!) including tips. \nThe place does not serve alcohol\, but feel free to bring wine or beer if you want: since the place is certified kashrut\, they ask for the outside drinks to be kosher too. \nI will try to order a variety of dishes similar to the selections we tried in the past\, supply chain issues allowing\, of course\, and try a new dish or two. And please bring CASH as it is by far the easiest way to pay in the end.  \nI made the reservations on both dates for their two biggest tables\, so we can aim for 22 people per event\, starting at 6pm. Thus\, we are rather limited by space\, and if you are interested in attending\, please send me an e-mail with your preferred date in January of 2025 (Thursday 9th and Tuesday 21st) at nymsactivities@gmail.com to reserve a spot for you. This interdisciplinary exhibition explores notions of time\, waste\, and the in-between. Breakdown shines a light on the dark corners of the life cycle recognizing the oft-overlooked workhorses of the ecosystem. \nCome visit this hidden gem of a museum and view the exhibition at the public opening on 1/25/2025.  Bring the whole family!  Enjoy kid-friendly activities inspired by the show. Zoom in on fungi specimens with the microeye microscope\, explore color and flow with wet-on-wet painting\, enjoy vibrant natural science books in our reading nook\, take home a mushroom coloring page\, and more fun for all ages.  Along the way\, check out the other exciting cultural and culinary delights on Staten Island and make a day of it! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\, registration is strongly recommended. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Van Cortlandt Park East\, Bronx this Sunday\, January 26th. Please note: the walk will start earlier than we normally do. \nIt has been cold\, but on Sunday we may be due for a slight reprieve. We will be joined by special guests Tom Bigelow and Juniper Perlis.  \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. Dress for the weather. The NYMS is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do.  \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
