DESCRIPTION:Join us for a New Year’s Day pop-up walk in Central Park\, Manhattan\, Monday\, January 1st! \nRing in the new year with a walk in Central Park. Bring your new self. No need for a lunch (you could buy a dirty water hotdog or a pretzel if you’re hungry). Bring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box if you have one\, and your keen senses. \nPlease note: There will not be an ID session this Monday\, January 1st. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect.\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nWe look forward to seeing you on New Years Day! \nWhat happens now that scheduled walks are finished for the year?\nWe will have pop-up walks on most weekends until scheduled walks start again in July 2024. Pop-up walks are usually announced on Thursday mornings. Locations and dates are picked at short notice based on local conditions and walk leader availability. \nMembers are encouraged to lead pop-up walks!\nIf you are interested in leading or co-leading a pop-up walk please respond to this email. No taxonomic knowledge is required. The only prerequisite is familiarity with the club’s walk route in a specific park.

However\, there will be plenty of wood decomposers like jellies\, basidiomycete crusts\, ascomycetes\, and polypores\, in addition to some gilled fungi that prefer the cold weather. (Be sure to ask your walk leader about fungi that make their own antifreeze).  \nMembers are encouraged to lead pop-up walks!\nIf you are interested in leading or co-leading a pop-up walk please respond to this email.
