DESCRIPTION:Next Monday’s week’s ID meeting will be happening online. \nCome share what you’ve found\, see what others have found or to ask more general questions about anything fungi-related. \nWe encourage you to use iNaturalist – it’s a great way to keep track of your finds\, and you will be able to participate in these two NYMS projects: \n\nFungi of New York City.\nFungi Beyond New York City.\nSlime Molds of New York City.\n\nIf you’re not using iNaturalist\, try to have images on your computer that you can share. \nEither way\, it’s important to document your finds with clear pictures\, showing details of cap\, underside and stem\, and to note the habitat. When possible\, make a spore print. \nAll members are welcome to join – especially new members! We will try to make it as easy as possible for everyone and are eager to assist\, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:NYU Presents: MYCRO Mag Celebrating the Hidden Worlds of Microbes and Funga
DESCRIPTION:Today marks the launch of MYCRO Mag\, an NYU student-run interdisciplinary print and online publication focused on microbes and funga beyond mushrooms.  MYCRO offers a blend of science\, art\, industry practices\, and engineering and features contributions from a diverse group of NYU students\, faculty\, and outside collaborators. The project is proudly funded by a  Green Grant from the NYU Office of Sustainability and is available free in-print and online at  https://www.mycromag.org. \nLEADERSHIP\nFounded and edited by  Katya Bloomberg and designed by  Shelby Hipol\, both Masters’ candidates at NYU Steinhardt’s Nutrition & Food Studies program with prior media and publishing experience. \n“MYCRO was conceived after I spent a year as President of the Mycology Club at NYU\, where I had begun to envision a publication that brought attention to the fascinating world of mycology beyond mushrooms\, full of thought provoking articles and captivating images that highlight student research\, industry developments\, and other disciplines working with fungi and microbes.” \n– Katya Bloomberg\, Founder & Editor \nAVAILABILITY & LAUNCH PARTY\nIssue 01 of MYCRO is free online at  https://www.mycromag.org.  In-print copies are available  by request and will be available at the official MYCRO launch party: 5-7PM\, November 28 at 19 University Place\, Room 102.  NYU community members RSVP using NYU Engage.  The launch party will feature a talk by microbiome ethnographer Amber Benezra\, author of  Gut Anthro. \nCOMMUNITY-DRIVEN\nMYCRO brings together the talents of NYU students\, faculty\, and outside collaborators from a variety of backgrounds\, creating a richly interconnected mycelium-like network of perspectives that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. \nNYU GREEN GRANT SUPPORT\nGenerous support from the  NYU Office of Sustainability through a Green Grant enables MYCRO to explore and communicate the importance of microbes and fungi in current and future ecological systems\, sustainability practices\, and in agriculture and food engineering. \nORIGINAL ART\nStriking original illustrations\, watercolors\, and microscopic photography grace the pages of MYCRO\, offering a general audience of readers a visually engaging and accessible exploration of often-hidden or complex organisms and ideas.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a pop-up walk in the Hunter Island section of Pelham Bay Park\, the Bronx\, Saturday\, December 2nd at 11am! \nBring lunch\, water and paper bags for collecting specimens. Bring your hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box if you have one\, and your keen senses. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here. \nIf you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before\, here is what to expect.\nThe event details are only viewable to active members who are logged into the website. To view details of the event\, please use the login form in the left sidebar. \n \nWe look forward to seeing you on Saturday! \nWhat happens now that scheduled walks are finished for the year?\nWe will have pop-up walks on most weekends until scheduled walks start again in July 2024. Pop-up walks are usually announced on Thursday mornings. Locations and dates are picked at short notice based on local conditions and walk leader availability. \nMembers are encouraged to lead pop-up walks!\nIf you are interested in leading or co-leading a pop-up walk please respond to this email. No taxonomic knowledge is required. The only prerequisite is familiarity with the club’s walk route in a specific park.
