DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 17th at 6:30pm\nPier 57 Oyster Classroom\n25 11th Avenue\, NYC \nSmuts\, Mildews\, and Leaf Spots: Fungal Plant Pathogens of New York City \nFollowing his talk on rust fungi for the Mycoconsortium\, Andrew returns to explore other charismatic groups of plant pathogens found across New York City. The city hosts a rich diversity of native and introduced plants\, and with them comes a dazzling array of plant diseases\, each with its own unique life cycle and history. \nThis lecture highlights major groups including smuts\, false smuts\, powdery mildews\, downy mildews\, ergots\, Botrytis and Monilinia molds\, parasitic Dothideomycetes\, and more. \nAndrew Cannon is an artist and amateur mycologist based in New York City. A member of the New York Mycological Society since 2015\, he serves as the Society’s archivist. Since 2023\, he has focused on researching the history and diversity of plant pathogenic fungi in North America\, particularly rusts\, smuts\, and mildews. \n
