DESCRIPTION:Friday\, December 12th at 6:30pm at Sigrid’s apartment; Limited Attendance \nWelcome to the Dark Side: The Fascinating World of Fungi Growing on Dung\nJoin us for a deep dive into the fascinating world of coprophilous fungi – fungi that grow on dung. These fungi are surprisingly diverse\, ecologically important\, and often strikingly beautiful. The lecture will feature macro and time lapse photography to reveal their hidden details\, growth patterns and spore-launching behaviours. A wide range of species will be covered\, from well-known genera like Pilobolus and Panaeolus to tiny ascomycetes\, including species new to science.\n\nAbout our speaker:\nSigrid is a New Yorker with a particular interest in coprophilous fungi and Inocybaceae. She is a former president of the New York Mycological Society\, member of NAMA’s sequencing committee and the Ohio Mushroom DNA lab\, and a board member of FUNDIS. She’s also a co-founder and moderator of the Coprophilous Fungi Facebook group.
