SUMMARY:Trees Count - Fungal Edition
DESCRIPTION:Survey the fungi and trees of Carl Schurz Park with the NYC Mushroom Network. \nJoin the NYC Mushroom Network and the New York Mycological Society for a special Trees Count workshop to help survey trees and their fungal counterparts at Carl Schurz Park. The workshop will begin with a training with Tree Census educators on ArcGIS using the Tree Census app. We will learn about tree assessments\, the relationship between trees and fungi\, identification techniques\, and common fungal partners and pathogens\, with Manhattan Parks Forestry; Zihao Wang\, forester and naturalist; and Andrew Canon\, artist\, amateur mycologist\, and expert on rust fungi. The conversation will be facilitated by Daniel Wendlek and Marilyn Griffin. Participants will split up in teams into different zones within the park to start counting trees\, assessing tree health\, and identifying fungi! After completing the first training event\, participants are welcome to continue surveying trees on their own in smaller parks across the city.
