SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Long Pond Park\, Staten Island\, Sunday\, July 5th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Long Pond Park\, Staten Island this Sunday\, July 5th. \nThis will be our first time visiting Long Pond Park since 2025 and only our second visit during the summer.  On our last summertime visit\, Craig Sloan found Sphaerostilbella berkeleyana\, which was a first for the city at the time. S. berkeleyana is a bright purple ascomycete that parasitizes Stereum and some polypores. \nSince there is a World Cup match on the day of this walk\, please be aware that traffic and transit may be somewhat more delayed than usual. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. This walk is scheduled for Sunday in hopes that the heat wave will have ended and the predicted thunderstorms passed. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
