DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Van Cortlandt Park East\, Bronx this Sunday\, December 21st.  \nCome walk with us in Van Cortlandt park this Sunday in what might be the last pop-up walk of 2025. Van Cortlandt has been visited the most of any park by the NYMS. That’s because it is really 3 parks in one. Divided by three highways and a golf course\, it gives us a lot of options to investigate. On a recent December visit (2022)\, Rudy Diaz identified a beautiful specimen of Fuscoporia ferruginosa on a standing dead cherry tree. That particular mushroom is probably still a New York City resident\, but Rudy has moved on. Rudy is currently resident mycologist of the Los Angeles Mycological Society and has conducted some fascinating mycological research. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk or shift it to another day. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
