SUMMARY:NYMS pop-up walk\, Forest Park\, Queens\, Sunday\, Jun 1st
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk in Forest Park\, Queens this Sunday\, June 1st.  \nForest Park spans 543 acres\, but NYMS concentrates mostly on the eastern section between Metropolitan Avenue and the railroad tracks that bisect the park. There have only been two June walks in Forest Park. Walks this time of year usually turn up a few gilled mushrooms\, sure\, but they can be brimming with slime molds. One walk in June of 2016 turned up 11 different species of myxomycetes—a remarkable number considering that they are so small and difficult to find.  \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. The club is fairly all-weather\, but if the forecast takes a particularly nasty turn\, we will cancel this walk. Please monitor your email in case we do. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
