DESCRIPTION:Our friends of the Torrey Botanical Society are organizing this lichen-focused walk. This is a joint trip with the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods\, an organization that works to preserve and protect endangered natural spaces on Staten Island. \nMeeting location: The parking lot of Clay Pit Ponds Interpretive Center\, at 2351 Veterans Rd W\, Staten Island\, NY 10309 \nTime and date: 11 AM to 2 PM\, 10/26/2024. \nDescription: Clay Pit Ponds State Park is unique in the city for having the regionally rare habitat of pine oak barrens. As a result\, the park contains numerous rare plants and a large variety of lichens. Join us in the appreciation of these small but exquisite organisms. \nCAUTION: ticks are present in large number at this location\, please come prepared with repellent and/or clothing that was treated with pesticide. \nDirection: Take NY-440 S to Veterans Rd W.
