SUMMARY:COMA 2024 Clark Rogerson Foray
DESCRIPTION:For 2024\, we will be at the Berkshire Hills Eisenberg Camp\, an accessible 460-acre facility in Copake\, NY. The secluded site features a private lake and comfortable (“motel-style”) accommodations. Foraging on campus and in nearby parks is reliably outstanding. We usually identify and record close to 400 species and will have a team of mycologists and expert identifiers on hand throughout the event. \nThe Ursula Hoffmann scholarship is intended to support the recipient’s attendance at COMA’s annual Clark Rogerson Foray. \nRegister Here\nOur roster of invited mycologists includes: \n\nDr. Roz Lowen\, ascomycete expert\, and professor of mycology\nBill Yule\, Connecticut River naturalist\, and bolete expert\nJohn Plischke III\, author of Good Mushroom\, Bad Mushroom\nRick Van de Poll\, nationally recognized mycologist and instructor.\nDianna Smith\, past president of NEMF and founder of PVMA\n\nFeaturing Julie O’Grady\, Chief Mycophagy Chef. \nOvernight Accommodations\nThe 4-day fee includes 3 nights’ lodging and 8 meals\, from dinner on Friday to breakfast on Monday. (Please bring your lunch on Friday.) All rooms will be double-occupancy unless you elect to pay for the entire room yourself*. If you do not have a roommate chosen\, we will select one for you. \n\nMushroom Walks\nHunt mushrooms to your heart’s content\, both right on the property at nearby state parks. Learn in the field from expert mycologists. At the end of the Foray\, the mycologists will give “table talks\,” pointing out the weekend’s most interesting and exciting finds. \nEducational Programs\nAfternoon and evening programs will expand your fungal knowledge. Previous programs have covered a wide variety of topics. \nLive Auction\nDonate anything mushroom or outdoor-related\, including books\, magazines\, posters\, artwork\, houseware\, clothing\, and games. Keep your eyes peeled on your next stop at a yard sale. Self-made artwork\, t-shirts\, jewelry\, crafts\, jams\, jellies\, or dried mushrooms also make for sought-after prizes. \nScholarships\nWe strongly encourage members to apply for funding through COMA’s Scholarship Programs. SUMMARY:South Mountain Reservation\, Millburn\, NJ on Saturday\, September 28th
DESCRIPTION:Please prepare appropriately. And as always\, if the forecast changes for the very bad\, we might shift the walk to a different day or cancel it. As of the week of this walk\, it looks like there is no significant rain forecast for Saturday. However\, please monitor your email for event scheduling changes. In view of the recent dry weather in the region\, members should anticipate fairly unproductive conditions on the ground.  \nGuest lecturer the photographer Alison Pollack will be on this walk looking for tiny ascos and slime molds and is willing to do a demo of her process on the walk. \nBring paper bags for collecting specimens\, a hand lens\, a knife\, a tackle box (optional)\, water and a lunch. \nWe highly recommend using the iNaturalist app (IOS\, Android) to document the fungi you find.
