DESCRIPTION:URBAN NATURE IN FALL/WINTER SEASONS\nTuesday\, December 19\, 2023\, exhibit opens at 4:30pm\, talks begin at 5pm Bay Ridge Library\, second floor Meeting Room\nExhibit and discussion about the vibrant life that cohabits our urban environment\, highlighting species of plants\, animals and fungi we are likely to see in the Northeast.\n\n\nWith nature at a tipping point this event serving teens-adults\, focuses on why these species are important to a healthy ecosystem\, an understanding that all species\, including ourselves\, are reliant on supporting biodiversity in their preservation\, and how we can protect their urban habitats. \nDonna Miskend is a multimedia artist\, writer\, and educator. Her current body of work focuses on botanical/natural science illustration. She is passionate about nature and supports environmental engagement efforts through her programs and collaborations. Her professional memberships include the American Society of Botanical Artists. She began her career as an Urban Park Ranger\, and is a public engagement associate for NYC Parks’ Wildlife Unit. She volunteers with NYC Audubon and other environmental groups\, and focuses her education efforts on raising resident’s awareness of wildlife and how to coexist with them. \nSigrid Jakob\, president of the NY Mycological Society\, board member of the Fungal Diversity Survey\, (FunDIS)\, member of the fungal conservation working group of the Canadian Institute of Ecology and Education\, and co-founder of a fungi-focused community science initiative for Green-Wood Cemetery.
