DESCRIPTION:Talk:\nMushrooms of the African Diaspor(e)a \nIn this ethnomycological expedition from the African continent to the Caribbean islands to the northeastern United States\, we’ll discuss traditional uses of and attitudes towards mushrooms\, from origin stories to recipes to fungal fruiting bodies as nourishing and sustainable food sources. \nPier 57 Community Classrooms\, Pier 57\, 25 11th Avenue\, New York\, NY 10011. The classrooms are at the back of the ground floor\, a few minutes’ walk from the entrance. Pier 57 is a couple of long blocks from the A\, C and E lines. The M14D bus also goes there. \nThis event is free and open to all. We do however require a RSVP if you’re planning on attending! –\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n	\n	 \n\n\n	\n	 \n\n\n	\n	 \n\n\n	\n	 \n\n\n	\n	 \n\n\n\n \nMaria Pinto is a Boston-area writer\, mycophile\, and educator. She teaches for the literary nonprofit GrubStreet and has been awarded fellowships by the Vermont Studio Center\, the Writers’ Room of Boston\, The Mastheads\, and MASS MoCA. She has given mushroom talks or led walks for Telluride Mushroom Festival\, The Mycological Association of Washington DC\, the Central Texas Mycological Society\, and the Wisconsin Mycological Society\, among others. She also gave a great lecture at Fungus Festival last year! She’s currently at work on a book of nonfiction inspired by mushrooms for the University of North Carolina Press. Follow her on Instagram!
